Here’s another superb layout from Wendy Bennett to complement her Shaped Illusions feature in Issue 9 of Australian Scrapbook Ideas.

Materials

  • Kaisercraft After Five Black Tie patterned paper
  • Beutron buttons
  • Buzz and Bloom chipboard
  • organza ribbon
  • ribbons
  • braids
  • scraps of paper
  • Derivan Kindyglitz glitter glue
  • Zig Writer pen
  • gel pens

Step-by-Step

1 Crop your photos down to neatly frame the subjects. My photos were approximately 2×3”, except for the feature photo which is 5×4”.

2 Position the photos across the double page layout and make any last minute adjustments. Do not fasten in place yet, just pencil an outline around three sides of each photo. The side you leave unmarked is where the roll of paper will sit.

3 Before cutting, allow an extra 1” or so to accommodate the rolled paper and to allow the coloured mat to be seen. Cut with a craft knife.

4 Using a pencil, roll the paper back on each of the flaps and unroll. Put three strips of double-sided tape on the inside of the roll and then carefully roll back up. Pierce a hole in the paper and tie a coordinating ribbon around the roll.

5 Use a thick black journaling pen to make a small scalloped frame around the three cut sides on each frame and put a piece of scrap paper underneath. With a fine black pen, draw a slightly larger scallop over the top.

6 Using your leftover stash, mat each photo in a bright coloured paper.

7 Add scraps of paper and small pieces of ribbon round the edge of the layout. Sew around the edge.

8 Cut ¼” strips of a variety of paper in different lengths and curl them around a bobby pin.

9 Adjust them to different lengths and curls and then fix them as shown so they appear as streamers dangling.  Embellish the page with buttons.

10 Paint chipboard lettering black and add a little Kindyglitz to each letter. Place as shown and then add bauble trim beneath it.

11 Make more thin strips of curled paper and add to the bauble trim.

12 Cut three presents out, outline in black, use gel pens to draw ribbons on them and mount with foam tape.

13 Write the page journaling onto the journaling spot and then sew it to the page.
